About AC & Call Me They

The Queer Detainee Empowerment Project needs our financial support to make sure that LGBTQIA+ Immigrants impacted by detention have the support that they need to get through the COVID-19 crisis.

Hi! I’m Mx. AC Dumlao.

And my pronouns are they/them/theirs

I’m a proud queer transgender non-binary first-generation Filipino-American. As an activist, educator, and artist my work is dedicated to centering and uplifting underrepresented and multiply marginalized people and their communities.

I’m the creator of the social justice news Facebook page Call Me They (est. 2017; 10K+ followers and counting!) and the #genderfull fashion/self-care/mental health Instagram @mx.acdumlao (FKA @menswearselfcare; 10K+ followers and counting!). I’ve spoken at the The Wing for an advance screening and talkback with Lisa Ling for the CNN Original Series’ episode “This is Life with Lisa Ling: Gender Fluidity.”  I was profiled by NBC Asian America‘s #RedefineAtoZ list of AAPI emerging voices in 2017. My work and words have been featured by Allure Magazine, The Huffington Post, VICE Media,, Color Bloq (formerly EFNIKS.COM), and Wear Your Voice Magazine, and more. My activism has been recognized with awards from Parity and the New York State Comptroller. I was named a 2019 NYC Pride Community Hero, and was on the lead float in the NYC/WorldPride March on June 30, 2019.

(You can grab my up-to-date bios here!)

AC describes their intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in a way that makes it easy to grasp for new readers, yet still refreshing and engaging for folks who are already familiar with some social justice terminology. Their style of writing is informative, but perhaps most importantly, affirming and encouraging.” – Charlene Vo, Nonbinary and queer student of color
